The Dark Forest

This month, I wanted to briefly discuss the Dark Forest! As the name implies, the Dark Forest is a mysterious and foreboding place where one could easily become lost within its twisting maze of trees and vegetation, which seem to be shuffled around by some unseen force. It’s where many players will spend their time collecting resources, and it’s the only place where the player will encounter combat. Many beasts make their home within the forest, and it’s where the player can hunt to collect meat to cook and serve within the inn.

The interesting aspect of the Dark Forest is that on every 8th night during the full moon, it will reshuffle itself by procedurally adding and removing zones and changing their combinations, replenishing resources in the process. I wanted to keep the Dark Forest interesting by making it necessary to explore while searching for various resources. And who knows, there may be a few secrets trapped within for those bold enough to seek them.
